finish
Timber finish is as important to the final result, as your choice timber & colour. The finish will give you the texture, sheen and lustre you desire, as well as the level of practicality & maintenance level you desire to live with. So select the best finish that suits your lifestyle.. All of our timber finishes are available on all timbers.

Lacquer, is the most durable finish. Lacquer Traditional was achieved through shellacking with natural resins, today we use 2 pac products that are very hard and durable and can range in glass level from very high mirrored look to a low sheen satin appearance. Lacquer is the hardest, practical & durable interior finish

Waxes & Oils, give the most natural appearance. Bees wax in particular enhances the depth of the grain, bringing out the character of the timber. Tongue oil penetrates deeply and provides a practical work surface for table and bench tops. The gloss level will depend on the amount time invested in re-apply the finish – the more oil or wax the more shine. Wax in particular will mark more easily with water rings etc, however they are easily buffed out with elbow grease. Re-application of a light coating frequently will keep the finish fresh.

Lime, is the application of a chalk like wash, that acts to wash out the underlying timber colour. It is used to recreate a drift-wood timber look. It has flat finish and as a coating will easily mark and is often top coated with a clear lacquer as protection. The level of liming can vary from a complete flat white finish similar to paint, to a very subtle grain enhancement. This is when the majority of the lime is removed leaving the product in only the deepest parts of the timber. It works best when the timber is not too smooth.

Paint, any paint can be used on furniture, however for best results, careful selection of which paint type can make all the difference. Acrylics dry faster and allow for more grain texture to remain. Enamels are harder and provide a more durable smooth look. The main advantage is that colours can be matched and formula specification makes the finish more exact.

Varnish, is the most practical exterior furniture finish. It can provide a sleek, glossy water resistant finish, and like lacquer it can be dulled if required to a semi-gloss or satin finish. It can be easily repaired with re-coating as needed

Oil, is a traditional exterior timber furniture finish. Oil will give you a subtle natural appearance, similar to waxing. Regular re-application of oil is required to maintain UV and water resistance. Re-application of a light coating often will keep the finish fresh.
